With the Mau Summit Rironi road being constructed, the road to Suswa would have been better if we had used the Ngong route (which we used coming back).
This was my second time in Suswa coming back after 3 years and the place has really changed. Much improvement to the roads heading to the hill from Suswa Town.
The hike began at the camping point which had also been improved by the community. It featured a toilet, bathing area, and a community kitchen which groups can use to cook and eat. However, I was not there for camping.
Suswa has 2 peaks and it was great to summit both. The heat of the sun is quite intense so if you want to go round the crater (22km), you have to start early. Going to the 2 peaks was quite moderate and everyone summitted.
After the hike we headed to the Suswa Caves which was a bonus since I did not see them last time.
It was terribly dark as we went down 2 layers into the caves where if your torch goes off, you are officially stranded.
Also, you get to see the most bats you will ever see in your life if you go down there. It’s a great thing they were harmless.
